Jessica James grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She attended Louisiana State University pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. She was working in a Pizza restaurant until the long hours, low pay and the constant smell of pepperoni and onions got the best of her. She walked into a Department store at the age of 19 in hopes of landing a more glamorous job. She was hired on the spot as an Estee Lauder Beauty Advisor in 1997. With no experience, she winged it and realized the power of cosmetics and how much she wanted to make it her career. She moved to Dallas, TX in 1999 to pursue that career in a bigger city. From 1999 to 2005 she worked as a makeup artist for Lancôme and MAC cosmetics. In 2005 she took a break from retail, and decided that she wanted to be a makeup artist on a much larger scale. She knew if she wanted the big jobs she would need a great portfolio and a signed contract with an agency. She worked freelance while she perfected her craft and built an impressive resume that got her in the door of one of Dallas Texas’ most well- known agencies. She signed with them in 2006 and started doing makeup and hair for print and television. She’s worked with celebrity clients, worked on music videos, and done both National and International advertising campaigns that include Nike, JC Penney, Stetson, Southwest Airlines, Verizon and Sanyo. In 2008 she was chosen as a contestant for a competition reality show that aired on Lifetime called Blush: The search for the next great makeup artist.
When she’s not at work, she’s still working. She’s a busy mom to three girls. Her husband is a Dallas Fireman and a Medic in The Army National Guard. They remind her everyday how lucky she is to do the work she does. The middle one said to her just recently, “Mom, every day you make women look and feel gorgeous. You have the best job!”
